My name is Lauren Tracy, film student at Rochester Institute of Technology
(RIT) and co-founder of X-Factor Filmmakers with my father. We have seen
how competitive it is to get funding for filmmaking, even at the college level.
We decided to put our money where our mouth is, so we established
X-Factor Filmmakers to raise funds for female film grants and scholarships
throughout the country. I spend as much time trying to find sponsors and
patrons for my films as I do creating them. We don't want female
filmmakers to give up on projects that they couldn't afford to produce.
At best, the visions that are seen on theater screens and enter our culture
are still almost entirely the visions of men. If more women graduate film
school with the experience they need to compete in the film world then their
visions will be shared with a much larger scale of American audiences.
